I welcome you to learn about my practice. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, a Certified master level Hypnotherapist, and a trained Life Coach. I have dedicated my healing career to helping hundreds of adults, couples, and families to face and address their emotional, mental and spiritual concerns since 1999.
After a rewarding career in business management and administration, I chose to put my work effort where my heart was, and completed a career change which led to receiving my Masters degree in Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. I have had the privilege of working as an individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, life coach, and addictions counselor in private practice, in psychiatric hospitals, in community mental health centers, for private agencies, in the mental health emergency room setting, in the mental health day hospital setting, as a mental health consultant to a hospital medical ER and medical units, and as the mental health team member on USDOD "Battlemind" post-deployment health screening teams.
My formal training and work experience have been enhanced by hundreds of hours of specialized training in various areas of mental/emotional health, including certification as a master level transpersonal hypnotherapist, and my license as a clinical addictions specialist.
I was privileged to expand my experience and skills in working with our military personnel and their families when I volunteered for over a year as co-facilitator for a V.A. combat veterans PTSD recovery group. I serve as a U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service volunteer at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC, and local "Small Wall" events, where I provide brief PTSD and grief counseling to Memorial visitors.
My therapy style is eclectic, interactive, and solution focused with respect for the fact that some of our problems may stem from childhood experiences which need to be resolved in order to improve our day to day lives. I employ traditional psychotherapy and counseling methods, and offer hypnotherapy when it might be useful and at client request. I also enjoy providing Life Coaching services to persons who want to build on or fine-tune their current success. Transpersonal Regression Hypnotherapy is available to assist the metaphysically-minded client with the opportunity to explore past-lives as a possible source of today's problems. And being aware that issues beyond thoughts and feelings can contribute to emotional distress or feeling stuck in life, I may suggest that a client access medical, social, spiritual, or other resources in conjunction with therapy.
I am available to assist any adult person including those who practice positive alternative spiritual beliefs, and persons who may be gay, lesbian, bisexual , or trans. It is my honor to work with veterans and with other public servants, and their family members.
Office hours are available in two locations.
I accept cash and personal or cashier's checks, and I do not accept any payment cards. I am an in-network provider with many insurance plans, and am an out-of-network provider for most other plans. I do not accept Medicaid.
